Do your dreams include setting your own work schedule and being your own boss? Those dreams can become a reality when you become an Uber driver. With this on-demand driving service that connects you directly to customers in need of a ride, you'll get to choose how much or how little you work. However, to become an Uber driver, there are certain driver and vehicle requirements you must meet. Here's a brief guide from Bill Walsh Automotive Group to help you on your way.
ÂDriver Requirements
First, you'll need to sign up to drive with Uber using their website. To sign up, you'll need to provide certain information and documents. Here are the requirements:
·        You must be at least 21 years old and have had a valid U.S. driver's license for a minimum of one year (three years if under 23).
·        You must have a valid driver's license, car insurance, and car registration.
·        You must pass a background check, including a survey of your driving record.
Vehicle Requirements
To be acceptable for Uber service, your vehicle must be at least a four-door model and be no more than 15 years old (2002 model year or newer). In addition, your vehicle must be in good condition with no significant cosmetic wear and tear, and it should have no commercial or company branding on its exterior or interior.
Vehicle Inspection Requirements
In order to drive for Uber, your vehicle must undergo a thorough inspection. Uber has car inspection sites across the states - called Uber Greenlight locations - but it also partners with Jiffy Lube (113 Kain Street, Ottawa, IL) and Midas (4224 Mahoney Drive, Peru, IL), so you can get your vehicle inspection nearby. Â Before your vehicle qualifies for Uber service, an inspection must show that it has five seats and seatbelts, windows that are in good working order, and air conditioning. The inspection will also include checks on your lights, brakes, steering, horn, speedometer, tires, and bumpers.Â
Once you meet the driver and vehicle requirements and pass the vehicle inspection, you'll be well on your way to becoming an Uber driver.
