Gobblers Knob Land Holding Company LLC and Bar W Fox River Farm, LLC:
Land, water and wildlife conservation and stewardship in Starved Rock Country
operating Gobblers Knob Land Holding Company, LLC (Illinois River, Ottawa) and
Bar W Fox River Farm, LLC (Fox River, Marseilles). Concentrating on returning
land to fully productive farm land (hay, legumes and rye at Gobblers Knob and
cattle, corn and soybeans at Bar W) re-establishing natural prairie and forest
environments, preserving wetlands conservation and protecting local aquatic and
terrestrial threatened and endangered species. Planting of 100 hard wood
saplings began in 2017. Continued plantings of hundreds of additional saplings
and eradication of invasive species occurred in 2018 with the consultative
assistance of members of the Conservation Foundation and Illinois Forestry
Consulting.Â
For 2019 we will be planting more saplings at both the upper and
lower acreage at Gobblers Knob, planting additional prairie grasses to
propagate the rolling acres of grassland as a classic American image in Starved
Rock Country and a new project to transplant mature hardwoods and evergreen
trees in an effort to increase the variety of trees within the Gobblers Knob
ecosystem and to expedite a more mature forest environment for wildlife.Â
Continued invasive species clearing, cleaning of the riverfront and vast,
rugged ravines and streams and waterfalls will also continue.
